1.    G20 leaders summit begins in Brisbane
i. The 2014 G-20 Australia summit is the ninth meeting of the G-20 heads of government.

ii. G20 leaders summit begins in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia, from 15 and 16 November 2014.
iii. The hosting venue is Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre at South Brisbane.
iv. The Leaders' Summit is the most important event in the G20 year. The summit provides a valuable opportunity for leaders to discuss a wide range of global economic issues and to use their collective power to improve people’s lives.
v. The summit is informed by the policy discussions held throughout the year. At the end of the summit, leaders release a communiqué which outlines the G20 policy discussions and commitments.

2.    Financial inclusion: All households in Kerala, Goa get bank accounts
i. Giving a boost to the Centre's financial inclusion agenda, Kerala and Goa have become first states in the country with every household having at least one bank account.
ii. Kerala was declared as 100 per cent saturated State (in terms of coverage of all households with at least one bank account) on November 11," the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
iii. In addition, Goa, Chandigarh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep and three districts of Gujarat- Porbandar, Mehasana, Gandhi Nagar, have also covered all households under PMJDY with at least one bank account, it said.
iv. As on November 10, 7.24 crore accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) of which 4.29 crore in rural and 2.95 crore are in urban areas. RuPay Cards have been issued in case of 3.97 crore accounts.
v. Recently, Financial Services Secretary Hasmukh Adhia reviewed the progress in implementation of PMJDY with state level banking committees conveners of all the states.

3.    RBI issues guidelines on loans to landless farmers
i. Taking forward the government's Budget proposal to provide finance to landless farmers, RBI today set out detailed guidelines for banks for giving such loans and asked them to ensure meeting targets.
ii. The banks would also have to provide regular progress reports to NABARD in this regard.
iii. In the Union Budget 2014-15, it was declared that 5 lakh Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of land-less farmers will be financed through NABARD in the current financial year.
iv. Banks may encourage creation of such enterprise/ livelihood based JLGs within SHGs. Banks may finance these JLGs in addition to the loan/credit limit extended to the SHGs," RBI said in a notification.

4.    Government had 461.60 billion rupees of outstanding loans from RBI as on November 7
i. The Indian government had 461.6 billion rupees ($7.48 billion) outstanding loans with the central bank under its ways and means advances in the week ended Nov. 7, according to the Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement released on Friday.
ii. The central government also had no outstanding loans in the previous week.
iii. State governments had 17.39 billion rupees of loans from the RBI in the week ended Nov. 7, compared with 7.43 billion rupees in the previous week, the release showed.

5.    Union Government launched the nationwide Bal Swachhta Mission
i. The Union Government launched the National Bal Swachhta Mission in New Delhi.
ii. On the occasion, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi also released a book on Bal Swachtta Mission prepared by NIPCCD.
iii. Apart from this, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani, who launched the Bal Swachhta Mission at the National Bal Bhavan also launched Udaan programme for girls.
iv. Bal Swachhta Week is being observed from 14 November to 19 November 2014.

About Bal Swachhta Mission
i. The Bal Swachhta Mission is a part of the nationwide sanitation initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission that was launched by the Prime Minister on 2 October 2014.
ii. The nationwide Bal Swachhta Mission will have the following six themes:
1. Clean Anganwadis
2. Clean Surroundings like Playgrounds
3. Clean Self (Personal Hygiene/Child Health)
4. Clean Food
5. Clean Drinking Water
6. Clean Toilets

6.    DD National to be re-launched with tagline Desh Ka Apna Channel
i. Prasar Bharti announced to re-launch DD National with new tagline Doordarshan National – Desh Ka Apna Channel. Also, new colours of purple and pink are added with a fresh palette of programming.
ii. The new look promises fresh content and will provide wholesome entertainment to the viewers from 17 November 2014. The move is aimed at attracting more viewers.
iii. The channel will continue to focus on traditional family values – Rishtey, Nation before Self, Rashtra Gaurav and Trustworthiness – Dilon Mein Vishwas.

About DD National
i. Doordarshan National is the primary channel of Prasar Bharati which was launched on 15 September 1959.
ii. DD National (DD1) is a state-owned general interest terrestrial television channel in India. It is the flagship channel of Doordarshan.
iii. It is one of India's largest broadcasting organisations in terms of studio and transmitter infrastructure. Recently, it also started broadcasting on Digital Terrestrial Transmitters.

7.    Obama announces $3 billion contribution to Green Climate Fund
i. U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday formally announced a $3-billion U.S. contribution to an international fund to help poor countries cope with the effects of climate change.
ii. The contribution doubles what other countries had previously pledged ahead of a November 20, 2014 deadline.

8.    Philae lander of Rosetta Mission landed on Comet 67P
i. European Space Agency’s (ESA) Rosetta mission landed its Philae probe on the surface of Comet 67P/ Churyumov–Gerasimenko on 12 November 2014. The landing site has been named as Agilkia and is located on the head of the bizarre double-lobed object. 
ii. This is the first time in the space history that a probe landed on a comet. 
iii. Philae’s mission is to transmit data about composition of the comet after landing on its surface. It will provide elemental, isotopic, molecular and mineralogical composition of the cometary material.
iv. The lander name has been kept after Philae Island in the Nile, where an obelisk (a tall, four-sided, narrow tapering monument) that was found and used, along with the Rosetta stone, to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics. 

9.    Union Government announced concessions for minority refugees from Pakistan and Afghanistan
i. Union Ministry of Home Affairs relaxed Indian citizenship norms for Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan and Afghanistan. As per the relaxed norms, now the refugees from both the countries, who have entered prior to 31 December 2009, can apply for the Indian citizenship manually.
ii. This decision of the government was taken in the light of refugees facing difficulties in submitting online applications.
iii. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed the Foreigners Division of his ministry that while approving the concessions, grievances of these applicants should be suitably addressed.

Refugees in India
• There are about 400 Pakistani Hindu refugee settlements in cities like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jaipur. 
• Several Sikh refugees live in Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
• About one lakh minority community refugees from Pakistan and Afghanistan are living in India

10.  Radio Kashmir Jammu won Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting award 2014
i. Radio Kashmir Jammu on 12 November 2014 won prestigious Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting award 2014 for its programme Jeevan Rekha.
ii. Jeevan Rekha is a programme based on the live broadcasts done in the wake of flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir by Radio Kashmir Jammu.
iii. It was based on the based on the rescue operations carried out by Radio Kashmir Jammu during massive floods in the J & K region.
iv. Jeevan Rekha was a production by Sanjeev Sharma, Programme Executive, written by Nitish Arora, Programme Executive.

About Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting award
i. The Award was instituted to commemorate the visit of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi to the Studios of AIR at Broadcasting House, New Delhi on 12 November 1947.
ii. The award is presented annually to the Best Programmes produced on Gandhian Philosophy and Public Services Programmes by AIR & Doordarshan

11.  Farhan Akhtar appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia



i. Bollywood Actor Farhan Akhtar appointed as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. Farhan is the first male ever to be chosen as a Goodwill Ambassador in the organization’s history.
ii. Farhan will dedicate his efforts as UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia towards the empowerment of women and girls and will serve as an advocate for UN Women’s newly launched HeForShe initiative in advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment. 
iii. UN Women’s other Goodwill Ambassadors include British actor Emma Watson, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman and HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to accelerate progress on meeting women needs worldwide. 

12.  India successfully test-fired Dhanush ballistic missile
i. Surface-to-surface nuclear-capable Dhanush ballistic missile was test-fired from a naval ship off the Odisha coast on 14 November 2014.
ii. Dhanush, a naval variant of India’s indigenously-developed Prithvi missile was fired from a ship in the Bay of Bengal by the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the defence force. 
iii. The missile launch was part of an exercise by the armed forces and it reached the designated target with high precision. Missiles launch and flight performance was monitored from the ITR at Chandipur, Odisha.

13.  Johnson named ICC Cricketer of the Year

i. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson was on Friday declared ICC Cricketer of the Year as well as the ICC Test cricketer of the Year.
ii. The 33-year-old has won the coveted Cricketer of the Year award for the second time in his career while he is only third Australian after Ricky Ponting (2006) and Michael Clarke (2013) to win the Test Cricketer of the Year award. 
iii. During the voting period between 26 August 2013 and 17 September 2014, Johnson claimed 59 Test wickets at an average of 15.23, with best bowling figures of seven for 40 runs against England in Adelaide last December. 
iv. In ODIs, Johnson claimed 21 wickets in 16 games. 
v. Johnson was earlier named in the ICC Test Team of the Year in Dubai on 5 November. In the same event, India fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was revealed as the LG People's Choice award winner. 
vi. Johnson has been joined on the winners' list by South Africa's AB de Villiers, who was named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year, and England's Gary Ballance, who claimed his first-ever ICC award after being named the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year.

14.  Boxing India granted permanent membership by International Boxing Association, AIBA
i. Completing India's rehabilitation into the international boxing fold, AIBA Friday unanimously gave permanent membership to the recently elected Boxing India during its quadrennial congress in Jeju Islands, Korea.
ii. India was provisionally suspended in December 2012 for alleged manipulation in the erstwhile Indian Amateur Boxing Federation's elections.
iii. Boxing India was earlier granted provisional recognition by AIBA after the elections but is still to get the approval from the Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association.

15.  Infosys ties up with DreamWorks for new engineering solutions
i. Software major Infosys has entered into a strategic partnership with DreamWorks Animation SKG to develop new engineering solutions.
ii. “The tie-up envisages developing next generation technologies with our global talent pool in cloud, big data, Java and open source platforms for DreamWorks,” the IT bellwether said in a statement on Saturday.
iii. The U.S.-based digital studio creates animated feature films, television programmes and online virtual worlds.
iv. Infosys chief executive Vishal Sikka said the company had a market-leading record of delivering critical engineering services to innovative tech firms like DreamWorks.

16.  Saina storms into summit clash of China Open
i. Olympic bronze-medallist Saina Nehwal stood just one win away from clinching her maiden China Open title after she stormed into the finals of the $700,000 Super Series Premier tournament in Fuzhou on Saturday.
ii. In her sixth appearance in the prestigious tournament, Saina continued her rampaging run as she produced another good show to outclass World No. 17 Liu Xin of China 21-17 21-17 in the women’s singles semifinals that lasted 47 minutes at the Haixia Olympic Sport Centre.
iii. The World No. 5 Indian will take on the winner of match between fifth seed Bae Yeon Ju of Korea and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, in the summit clash on Sunday.

1. NASA tests 3D-printed rocket engine parts

i. NASA has successfully tested 3D manufactured copper parts for rocket engines and found they could withstand the heat and pressure required for space launches.
ii. Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) at NASA’s Glenn Research Centre in partnership with NASA successfully completed the first hot-fire tests on an advanced rocket engine thrust chamber assembly using copper alloy materials.
iii. This was the first time a series of rigorous tests confirmed that 3D manufactured copper parts could withstand the heat and pressure required of combustion engines used in space launches, NASA said.

2. Ratan Tata to be on board of Interpol Foundation

i. Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has been appointed to the board of Interpol Foundation to contribute to its two new global initiatives aimed at combating organised crime and terrorist activities by the international police organisation.
ii. Interpol Foundation said it is "honoured that Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has accepted to sit on its board of trustee and contribute to the success of the Protecting Cultural Property and Modernising Channels of International Judicial Cooperation initiatives."
iii. The initiatives are two of the five global initiatives backed by Interpol and aimed at combating organised crime and terrorist activities, the foundation said in a statement.
"Other initiatives will be announced in 2015 and entrusted to other members of the Board of Trustees," Interpol Foundation said.

3. Veteran sports scribe Chandrasekhar P Sant passed away

i. Veteran sports scribe and President of the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai Chandrasekhar P Sant died on 13 November 2014 following a massive heart attack. He was 61.

•    Chandrasekhar P Sant, a former sports editor of Maharashtra Times, was a long-time treasurer of the Sports Journalists Federation of India.
•    He was among the few Indian sports scribes who were present to witness Kapil Dev's team winning the coveted World Cup in England in 1983.
•    Sant was the only sports journalist to have attended the JK Bose All India Cricket tournament for sports journalists since its inception.

4. India successfully test-fires nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile

i. India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, from a test range at Chandipur near here as part of a user trial by Army.
ii. Defence sources said the state-of-the-art missile, which is capable of carrying 500 kg to 1000 kg of warheads, was test-fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range at about 10.40 hrs.

5. Doctor arrested for Bilaspur sterilisation deaths

“I am being blamed for the deaths, which is incorrect. They should arrest the Chief Medical Officer of Bilaspur and District Health Officer,” Dr. R.K. Gupta said after his arrest.

i. The doctor who conducted 83 sterilisation surgeries at the government-organised family planning camp in Pendhari area of Bilaspur, has been arrested from Chhattisgarh’s Balodabajar district.
ii. R.K.Gupta had allegedly conducted 83 surgeries in five hours on November 8, 2014 after which, within a few hours, 12 women died and more than 60 had to be admitted to the hospital.
iii. However, Dr. Gupta claimed that he was "innocent" and his superiors were making him "scapegoat".
On the allegations of “criminal negligence” against him, Dr. Gupta pleaded innocence.

6. Children’s Day observed across India on 14 November

i. India on 14 November 2014 celebrated Children’s Day (known as Bal Diwas in Hindi). The day is observed to increase the awareness of people towards the rights, care and education of children.


ii. Children’s day in India is observed annually on the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. The day is observed on Nehru’s birthday to showcase his love for children and he is also regarded as Chacha Nehru for children.

1. Chennai to host Global Investors' Meet in May 2015
i. The Tamil Nadu Government on Thursday announced that the Global Investors' Meet (GIM) would be held during May 23-24 next year in Chennai to showcase the ample endowments and boundless potential of the State.

ii. Among the sectors that would be highlighted were electronics and electronics hardware, textiles, agro and food processing, IT/ITES, automobiles and auto components, chemicals and petrochemicals, engineering and heavy engineering, Infrastructure including roads and minor port development, industrial parks and SEZs, urban infrastructure and renewable energy.
iii. The government, in the budget for 2014-2015, set apart Rs. 100 crore for the proposed event.

2. President Pranab Mukherjee visited Bhutan
i. President Pranab Mukherjee visited Bhutan on 7-8 November 2014 to strengthen ties between the two countries. This is the first bilateral visit by a President of India to Bhutan in 26 years.
ii. During his visit he had meeting with the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. He also discussed issues of mutual interest which includes bilateral and regional importance.
iii. During his visit, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Nalanda University. According to MoU, India will provide appropriate visa to students, faculty and staff for travelling to India to study or work in the University.

NOTE: Besides, three more MoUs were signed
• The Royal University of Bhutan and English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad
• The Royal University of Bhutan and National Innovation Foundation under the Department of Science &Technology
• The Royal Civil Services Commission and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

3. Kohli joins star Ambassadors for 2015 World Cup
i. India’s Virat Kohli joins an elite list of star Ambassadors to provide necessary support in the build-up to the ICC 2015 World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand between February and March.



ii. Kohli, Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson, all-rounder Shane Watson, New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum and Sri Lankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara have been appointed ambassadors for cricket’s most—anticipated event, which is now only 92 days away.
iii. Kohli, a star for India in their victorious 2011 World Cup campaign, said: “It is a matter of pride to be selected as the ambassador of ICC. I thank ICC for bestowing this honour upon me. As a cricketer, I wish to spread the passion of cricket to grassroot levels and I look at this as an opportunity to unify global initiatives for cricket throughout the world.”

4. Ravi Chopra, director of famous TV show Mahabharata, died at 68
i. Ravi Chopra, director of famous television (TV) show Mahabharata, died in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai on 12 November 2014. He was 68. He was suffering from lung cancer from last few years.

ii. He was a producer and director of Indian movies. He started his career assisting his father B R Chopra in films like, Dastaan (1972) and Dhund (1973). He also assisted his uncle Yash Chopra in Ittefaq (1969).
iii. He made his independent directorial debut with Zameer (1975), produced under the family banner, B.R. Films.

5. Pak test-fires nuclear capable ballistic missile
i. Pakistan on Thursday successfully test-fired a ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear and conventional warheads to targets as far as 1,500 kilometres, bringing many Indian cities under its range.
ii. The intermediate-range missile Shaheen—II, also called Hatf VI, was launched from an undisclosed location and its impact point was in the Arabian Sea, the military said.
The successful launch was the culminating point of the Field Training Exercise of Army Strategic Forces Command.
iii. The purpose of the launch was to ensure operational readiness of a Strategic Missile Group besides re-validating different design and technical parameters of the weapon system, the military said in a statement.

6. WEF hosted the 29th India Economic Summit in New Delhi
i. The World Economic Forum (WEF) in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) hosted the India Economic Summit in New Delhi from 4 November 2014 to 6 November 2014.
ii. The summit was held under the theme, Redefining Public-Private Cooperation for a New Beginning. Union Finance, Corporate Affairs and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the events.
iii. The Summit was built on three pillars: Boosting Global Competitiveness; Launching a Domestic Systems Reset; and Scaling Local and Social Innovation.

7. Karunanidhi’s daughter Selvi to depose as ED witness
i. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrayed DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s daughter S Selvi as one of the witnesses in a 2G scam-related money laundering case in which her mother Dayalu Ammal has been put on trial by a Delhi court.
ii. ED has named 30 persons as prosecution witnesses in the case in which the court had framed charges against ex-Telecom Minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Dayalu Ammal and 16 others, including nine companies, under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

8. Rohit Sharma Creates History, Slams Record 264 to Become Highest ODI Scorer



i. Rohit Sharma created history, becoming the first man ever to smash two double centuries in ODIs. Rohit got his second double ton vs Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens on Thursday. His first (209) came against Australia in Bangalore on November 3, 2013. Rohit also surpassed Virender Sehwag's 219 to become the highest-scorer in ODIs.
ii. Rohit was dismissed off the final delivery for 264, as India finished on 404/5. Rohit's epic essay of 200 came off 151 balls and included 25 fours and 5 sixes.
iii. Rohit survived an early dropped chance (when he was on 4) and capitalised well to make his way into the record books. 
"I was not tired at all. Coming after a two-month break, I was determined. Once I crossed 50, I had to get a century," Rohit said in a chat.

iii. This was also the third time that Anand had levelled the match-score in a world title clash after trailing. Against Veselin Topalov in 2010 and Boris Gelfand in 2012, Anand bounced back from deficit to keep the crown.

2. Kerala became first state with bank accounts for all families

i. Kerala became the first state in the country to have bank accounts for all families under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY).
ii. A formal declaration to this effect was made by Kerala Finance Minister KM Mani at the State-Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on 11 November 2014.
iii. Under the PMJDY, Kerala has opened about 13 lakh new accounts and has mobilised 326 crore rupees through intensive financial literacy campaigns launched under the aegis of the State Level Banker’s Committee (SLBC).

NOTE: Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna is a mega financial inclusion plan aimed at bringing poor financially excluded people into the banking system by providing them bank accounts and debit cards.It was launched on 15 August 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

3. Public sector bank employees go on strike
i. Employee unions of public sector banks went on a nation-wide strike on Wednesday to press for wage revision, affecting banking services like cheque clearance and withdrawal from branches across the country.
ii. However, branches of private sector banks like ICICI and HDFC remained open. At the same time, most of the ATMs of all banks were functioning normally, as per initial reports.
iii. "Strike is complete and total. This strike has been forced upon us as bank management did not yield to our scaled down demands,” United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) Convener M V Murali told PTI.

4. Sixth World Ayurveda Congress held in New Delhi
i. Sixth World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) was held in New Delhi from 6 to 9 November 2014. 
ii. Aim of WAC is to develop a vision and strategy for public action to realize the potential of Ayurveda and improve health care in India and serve as a model for public health globally.
iii. The events at sixth WAC included Seminar on Medicinal Plants, business meets coordinated by Pharmexil, an Editors Conclave, and international Delegates Assembly and a Guru shishya meet.
 Theme of the sixth WAC was "Health Challenges and Ayurveda"  

5. RBI tightens norms for NBFCs
i. Tightening norms for non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), the Reserve Bank of India on Monday raised the capital adequacy requirement and the net owned fund limit, among others, with an objective to mitigate risks in the sector.
ii. At present, the NOF requirement is at Rs.25 lakh. In a phased manner, the NBFCs would be required to raise it to Rs.1 crore by March, 2016, and to further double it to Rs.2 crore by 2017.
iii. "NBFCs failing to achieve the prescribed ceiling within the stipulated time period shall not be eligible to hold the CoR (Certificate of Registration) as NBFCs. The bank will initiate the process for cancellation of CoR against such NBFCs,” it said in a notification.

NOTE: NBFCs cannot offer interest rates higher than the ceiling rate prescribed by RBI from time to time. The present ceiling is 12.5 per cent per annum.

6. BJP wins trust vote in Maharashtra Assembly
i. BJP government headed by Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday won the confidence motion in Maharashtra assembly by a voice vote, amid protests by former ally Shiv Sena.

7. Indian Film Personality of the Year award for Rajinikanth
i. The Centre has named actor Rajinikanth as winner of the Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year.
ii. This was announced by Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State, Information and Broadcasting, on Tuesday.
iii. The Chennai-based actor would be receiving the honour at the 45th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from November 20 to 30.

8. PM Narendra Modi joins Instagram, gets thousands of followers
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made his Instagram debut with a picture of the venue of the 25th ASEAN Summit - and notched up followers at a blistering pace.
ii. He was welcomed on the site by his followers. There were a staggering 43,000 followers by 2 pm which kept on increasing by the second.
iii. The tech-savvy prime minister has 7.79 million followers on his Twitter account @narendramodi, and 3.43 million so far on the Prime Minister's Office account of @PMOIndia.

1. PM arrives in Myanmar to attend ASEAN, East Asia summits

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Myanmarese capital Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday to attend the ASEAN and the East Asia summits on the first leg of his three- nation tour that will also take him to Australia and Fiji.


ii. Asserting that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is at the core of India's 'Act East' policy, the Prime Minister said before leaving for Myanmar that he was looking forward to discussing with ASEAN leaders how to take "our relationship to a new level, which will supplement our deepening bilateral ties with each member".
iii. "ASEAN is at the core of our Act East Policy and at the centre of our dream of an Asian century, characterised by cooperation and integration," Modi said.

2. Jawed Usmani appointed as State Chief Information Commissioner in UP

i. Jawed Usmani appointed as State Chief Information Commissioner (SCIC) in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
ii. Governor of UP Ram Naik on 10 November 2014 approved appointment of Jawed Usmani as CIC.
iii. A three-member committee, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav selected the name of Usmani and forwarded it to the Governor. 

3. RIP Nokia Lumia, Microsoft officially announces re-branding for smartphones.

i. Microsoft on Friday evening formally announced that it would no longer use brand Nokia for its smartphones. Instead the devices will be called Microsoft Lumia.
ii. Microsoft will continue to use Nokia name for its entry-level phones. "Microsoft will continue to sell Nokia-branded, entry-level category of phones, such as the Nokia 130.
We have licensed the Nokia brand for such devices," said Tuula, senior vice president of marketing for phones at Microsoft.

4. Tendulkar’s book to be published in regional languages

"We look forward to co-publishing this bestseller in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Assamese, Telugu and Bengali", says Hachette India

i. Due to enormous demand, the publishers of Sachin Tendulkar’s record-breaking autobiography, Playing It My Way has decided to translate the book in Indian regional languages.
ii. Hachette India will be co-publishing Tendulkar’s autobiography after being flooded with interest from several publishers.
iii. “The book has topped 200,000 copies in orders, already pulling ahead of both pre-order and lifetime sales of the top hardbacks — Dan Brown’s Inferno, Walter Issacson’s Steve Jobs and J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy,” Hachette India in a release.

4. Rajnath Singh adopts Beti village in Lucknow

i. Union Home Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh has adopted Beti village in the district under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojna.
ii. “The Union Home Minister has adopted Beti village in Sarojini Nagar (Assembly segment) under the model village scheme,” Secretary of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit Virendra Tiwari said on Tuesday.
iii. Though in Lucknow district, Beti village is not part of the Lucknow parliamentary constituency. It falls in the Mohanlalganj parliamentary constituency.

5. PM launches Jeevan Pramaan - Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners

i. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Monday launched "Jeevan Pramaan" - an "Aadhar-based Digital Life Certificate" for pensioners, in a move that could eventually benefit over a crore pensioners.
ii. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that after the push towards self-certification, this digital life certificate was another enabling mechanism which would benefit the common man.
iii. The proposed digital certification will do away with the requirement of a pensioner having to submit a physical Life Certificate in November each year, in order to ensure continuity of pension being credited into his account.
iv. The Department of Electronics and IT has developed a software application which will enable the recording of the pensioner's Aadhar number and biometric details from his mobile device or computer, by plugging in a biometric reading device.
v. Key details of the pensioner, including date, time, and biometric information will be uploaded to a central database on real-time basis, ultimately enabling the Pension Disbursing Agency to access a Digital Life Certificate.

6. Mannan Kumar Mishra and S. Prabakaran re-elected to Bar Council of India
Mannan Kumar Mishra and S. Prabakaran were on 10 November 2014 re-elected to the Bar Council of India (BCI). Mannan Kumar Mishra was appointed as Chairman and S. Prabakaran as Co-Chairman of Bar Council of India.

7. China-India Development Fund looks to park Rs 30,000 crore in India’s infra projects

i. A private equity fund, christened as China-India Development Fund, amounting to USD 5 billion (over Rs 30,000 crore), has been launched for possible investments in infrastructure projects in India. Over Rs 6000 crore of this fund is expected to flow into Gujarat, official sources said on Tuesday.
ii. The fund launched by Shanghai Entrepreneur Association (SEA) has the support of China India Trade & Investment Centre (CITIC), stated a release from CITIC here.
iii. “Large infrastructure projects in India are not able to find adequate funding. In such a scenario, this fund will help provide the necessary finance. The SEA which has over 100 entrepreneurs is now looking for Indian partners which whom they can cooperate in various ways including joint venture participation for rail, highway, smart city and new city development projects,” said Jagat Shah, secretary general CITIC.

8. India-Israel joint venture missile LRSAM successfully test fired in Israel


i. Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM), the missile co-developed by India and Israel, was successfully test-fired on 10 November 2014 from a range in Israel. LRSAM is called Barak 8 missile in Israel.


ii. The missile successfully intercepted a manoeuvring air-breathing target mimicking an attacking combat aircraft. The test also validated all the elements related to the naval and land-based variants of the missile including the phased array radar, battle management system, communications and the interceptor.

iii. The test fire was carried by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in the presence of DRDO scientists and officials of the Indian Armed Forces. DRDO chief and Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister Dr Avinash Chander witnessed the test along with IAI President Joseph Weiss and other top officials of the Israel Defence Forces.

1.    Cabinet expansion: 21 new ministers join NDA govt,
i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his team on Sunday by appointing 21 new ministers, four of them in the Cabinet and three others as ministers of state with independent charge.
ii. Manohar Parrikar is the new Defence Minister and Suresh Prabhu will head the Railway Ministry Minister in the expansion-cum-reshuffle of the Narendra Modi ministry after 21 new Ministers were sworn-in on Sunday.
iii. Parrikar, who quit as Goa Chief Minister yesterday to join the Union Cabinet, takes over the charge from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who held the Defence portfolio as an additional charge. 


iv. Interestingly, Jaitley has been given the additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

2.    World Bank offers financial help for MSMEs in UP
i. The World Bank today said it will offer financial help to create new infrastructure for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises ( MSMEs) and improve the condition of existing ones in Uttar Pradesh.
ii. The offer was made to Sanjiv Saran, principal secretary, industries and infrastructure development, by Lead Urban Specialist of World Bank Barjor Mehta.
iii. A three-member team of World Bank, including Mehta and Senior Country Economist at World Bank .
iv. The report has been prepared by consulting agency CRISIL Limited under the aegis of World Bank for Agra-Firozabad sub-region, Kanpur-Lucknow-Unnao-Auraiya sub-region and Allahabad-Varanasi sub-region.
v. The World Bank has offered two options for funding, namely - Development Policy Loan (DPL) and Programme-for -Results instruments.


3.    India Ratings lowers growth forecast to 5.6 pc
i. Domestic ratings agency India Ratings today marginally revised down its economic growth estimate for 2014-15 fiscal to 5.6 per cent citing poor industrial performance, and warned that the government will slip on the fiscal deficit front.
ii. The agency pegged the final fiscal deficit print at 4.2 per cent, against the budget promise of 4.1 per cent, despite the 10 per cent spending cut announced last week. In the first six months of the fiscal, fiscal deficit touched 83 per cent of the tar ..

4.    Origo Commodities, NABARD tie up for warehouse receipt financing
i. Collateral management firm Origo Commodities today said it has tied up with NABARD to provide 'warehouse receipt financing' to farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
ii. Under this facility, farmers are allowed to deposit the crop at a warehouse closest to their farms and obtain pledge financing from banks to the extent of 70-75 per cent of the value of the commodity.
iii. The joint initiative will enable farmers to use the warehousing infrastructure of Primary Agriculture Co-opera ..
iv. This memorandum of understanding (MoU) is going to help farmers to a great extent by realising the right price by offering them options to sell their produce at the right time," NABARD Chief General Manager at Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Regional Office, Jiji Mammen said in a statement.

5.    Union Bank to charge own customers beyond 8 ATM transactions

i. After private banks – HDFC Bank and Axis bank – decided to charge own customers for more than five transactions at their ATMs, public sector lender Union Bank of India has also joined the bandwagon.
ii. The Mumbai-based bank will charge own customers for more than eight transactions per month at its ATMs and more than five at other banks ATMs. It will be charging Rs 15 per (excluding tax) from November 15, 2014.
iii. Many public sector banks are still in "wait and watch mode". They would like to see how pricing is firmed up by the private banks and large state-owned banks.

Note: i. HDFC Bank and Axis Bank will charge their own customers for more than five transactions at their Automated Teller Machines starting 1 December.
ii. HDFC Bank will be charging Rs 20 for financial transactions and Rs 8.5 (excluding taxes) for non-financial transactions (balance enquiry, mini statement).
iii. Axis Bank will be charging Rs 20 (excluding taxes) for financial transactions and Rs 9.5 for non-financial transactions
iv. At other bank ATMs, the customers of these banks will be charged beyond three transactions. Earlier five transactions were free at non-home bank ATMs.
v. However, Axis Bank has made ten transactions free for its Prime Plus Savings Account and Prime Salary account holders. These account holders are mandated to have a minimum opening balance of Rs 1 lakh.

6.    Govt considering to bring down its equity in Public Sector Banks to 52% percent: FM
i. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that government is planning to unfold disinvestment of its stakes in Public Sector Units, PSUs, to revive the economy.
ii. Addressing a gathering during the 25th India Global Forum in new Delhi, Mr Jaitley said, government is considering to bring down its equity in public sector banks to about 52 per cent so that almost 3 lakh crore rupees can be introduced for financial inclusion.
iii. Mr Jaitley said, the Modi led government is tax friendly and is committed to give exemption to those who are not in position to pay. He said, the goverment will follow a reasonable and rational tax policy to make India a hub of low-cost manufacturing.

7.    Nepal, India agree to form task force to install petro pipeline
i. Nepal and India have agreed to form a task force for the installation of a pipeline to transport petroleum products to Nepal from India. A meeting of officials of the two countries in Kathmandu constituted a five-member task force to initiate process for the installation of petroleum products pipeline between Nepal and India.
ii. Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Jeebraj Koirala led the Nepali delegation in the meeting while Additional Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Rajiv Kumar led the Indian team. The pipeline will be installed on a 41 kilometer stretch from Raxual of India to Amlekhgunj in Nepal.

i. Indo-Israel joint project LR-SAM has been tested successfully in Israel. Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile LR-SAM is a joint project of Israeli Aerospace Industry, Indian Navy and DRDO.

9.    Govt planning to cover entire country under IGMSY by 2016
i. Government is planning to cover the entire country under Indira Gandhi Maatritva Sahyog Yojana by 2016.
ii. The scheme envisages providing cash directly to pregnant and lactating mothers during pregnancy and lactation to improve health and nutrition.
iii. Addressing a function in New Delhi today, Women and Child Development Secretary, Vinay Sheel Oberoi said, the scheme is currently being implemented in 53 districts and will be extended to 253 districts by April next year. 
iv. Mr Oberoi said, pregnant women of 19 years of age and above for first two live births are entitled for benefits under the scheme.
v. The beneficiaries are paid six thousand rupees in two equal installments. He said, the cash incentives will not only contribute to better enabling environment but also encourage and promote health and nutrition standards.

10.  China, Russia sign energy agreements at APEC Summit
i. China and Russia have signed energy cooperation agreements on the sidelines of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC summit in Beijing.
ii. The deals, which include a second major supply route, were signed yesterday by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
iii. The route will supply Russian natural gas to China along a western route. In May, the two sides signed a 400 billion dollars deal for an eastern supply route.

i. Star batsman Virat Kohli on Sunday became the quickest cricketer to reach 6,000 runs in ODIs, bettering legendary West Indian Vivian Richards’ record during his 53-run knock in India’s third ODI against Sri Lanka.

ii. Playing in his 144th match and 136th innings, Kohli reached the milestone with a single off left-arm spinner Chaturanga de Silva in the 39th over at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Vivian Richards took 156 matches and 141 innings to reach the milestone in 1989.
iii. Kohli registered his ninth fifty (53 off 61 balls) vs. Sri Lanka - his 32nd in ODIs. The 26-year-old is the top run-scorer in ODIs in 2014 - his tally being 849 runs at an average of 49.94 in 19 matches.
iv. He also became the eighth Indian batsman to complete 6,000 runs or more in ODIs - his aggregate being 6003 (average 51.30) in 144 matches.

12.  India beat Australia, win test series by 3-1
i. Akashdeep Singh scored twice as Indian men’s hockey team stunned world champions Australia 3-1 in the fourth and final Test to register a historic 3-1 series win over the mighty Kookaburras in their home soil in Perth on Sunday. This is the first time that India have beaten Australia in a bilateral series.
ii. Prior to this series, the two countries have played five Test series in the past, with Australia winning thrice and one ending in a draw.
iii. India had beaten Australia 1-0 on Saturday to go 2-1 up in the series and Akashdeep pumped in two field goals in the 13th and 43rd minutes for the visitors, while S K Uthappa (53rd) scored once as the visitors completed a hat-trick of wins. Australia’s lone goal was scored by Tom Craig (36th).

13.  Nuclear-capable Agni-II missile test fired
i. India on Sunday successfully test-fired its medium-range nuclear-capable Agni-II missile with a strike range of more than 2000 km from the Wheeler Island off Odisha coast as part of a user trial by the Army. 
ii. The 20-metre long Agni-II missile is a two-stage, solid-propelled ballistic missile.
iii. It has a launch weight of 17 tonnes and can carry a payload of 1000 kg over a distance of more than 2,000 km. The Agni-II missile was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) and integrated by the Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad.
iv. Agni-II is part of the Agni series of missiles developed by DRDO which includes Agni-I with 700 km range, Agni-III with 3,000 km range, Agni-IV with 4000 km range and Agni-V more than 5,000 km range, they said. 

14.  Nico Rosberg wins Brazilian Grand Prix
i. The 29 year old German driver Nico Rosberg took full advantage of one mistake by Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton to win yesterday's Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, Brazil and keep alive his hopes of winning this year's world championship. 
ii. Rosberg's triumph ended Hamilton's run of five straight wins and reduced his lead in the championship from 24 points to 17 with one race remaining, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 23rd where double points will be awarded.

15.  Hockey India announces annual awards
i. In a first for Indian hockey, the national federation on Monday decided to have the ‘Hockey India Annual Awards’ wherein the top players in the men’s and women’s categories will walk away with a prize money of Rs. 25 lakh each.
ii. Each award will consist of a trophy, certificate and cash award. The decision to announce the awards was taken in the 26th Meeting of the Hockey India Executive Board here.
iii. The 26th Meeting of the Hockey India Executive Board was Chaired by Hockey India Senior Vice President, Ms Mariamma Koshy and attended by Executive Board Members including Md.
