                          Union Budget 2014-2015

                          Important details you should know about Union Budget

                          Friends, as you know, our Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitely has presented the Union Budget 2014-15on 10th July 2014.

                          Introduction
                          The budget is an extensive account of the government's finances, in which revenues from all sources and expenses of all activities undertaken are aggregated.
                          The Finance Minister presents the union budget every year in the Parliament that contains the Government of India's revenue and expenditure for one fiscal year, which runs from 1st April to 31st March.

                          Historical Preview

                          • The term 'Budget' is actually derived from a French word 'Bougette', which means a sack or pouch. It was first used in France in 1803.
                          • In the Constitution of India the term Budget is no where used. It is rather mentioned as Annual Financial Statement under Article 112 comprising the revenue budget, capital budget and also the estimates for the next fiscal year called budgeted estimates.
                          • As per the British Legacy, the Union Budget of India used to be presented on the evening of last  working day of the month of February to follow the British Budget.

                          Preparation of Budget
                          The budget is prepared by the budget division in the Ministry of Finance (MoF), after consulting with other ministries and the Planning Commission. The process majorly includes following steps which may be sequential or overlapping too.

                          Stages in Budget Enhancement
                          1. The budget goes through the following six stages in the Parliament.
                          2. Presentation of the budget on the floor of the House before the Lok Sabha.
                          3. General discussion on the budget
                          4. Scrutiny by departmentally related standing committees
                          5. Voting on demands for grants
                          6. Passing of appropriation bill (Article 114 of the Constitution of India)
                          7. Passing of finance bill (under Rule 219 of the Lok Sabha)

                          Vote on Account

                          • If budget is not passed of before the beginning of financial year, then government use the concept of vote on account. Usually, the Appropriation Bill (expenditure part of budget) is passed by end of April, but government needs money from beginning of financial year, so government use vote-on-account to remove money from consolidated fund of India.

                          Types of Budgeting

                          • Line Item Budgeting : It emphasizes on the items (objects) of expenditure without highlighting its purpose. It gives object-wise (Line-item) classification in budget. Under this system, the amount granted  by the legislature on a specific item should be spent on that item only.
                          • Output Budgeting : It concentrates only on the quantitative aspect of expenditure.
                          • Performance Based Budgeting : Its attempt to solve decision making problems based on a programme's ability to convert inputs to outputs and use inputs to affect certain outcomes.
                          •           Performance may be judged by a certain programme's ability to meet certain objective that contribute to more abstract goal as calculated by that programmes ability to use resources efficiently by linking input to outputs.
                          • Outcome Budgeting : This type of budgeting tries to ensure that budget outlays translate into concentrate outcomes.
                          • Zero Based Budgeting : It is a method of budgeting, in which all budgetary allocations are set to nil at the beginning of a financial year. Zero-based budgeting requires the budget requests be re-evaluated throughly, starting from the zero-base. This process is independent of whether the total budget or specific line items are increasing or decreasing. Zero based budgeting also refers to the identification of a task or tasks and then funding resources to complete the task independent of current renouncing.
                          • Gender Budgeting : It came into being in 2004-05. To contribute towards the women empowerment and removal of inequality based on gender, role of budgeting has been accepted through this step.
                          • Programme Budgeting : It emphasis the planning aspect of budgeting for selecting the beset out of a number of available programmes and for optimizing the choice.

                          Difference between Interim Budget and Union Budget
                          As you know, every year on the last working day of financial year, the Government of India presents the Union Budget for the next financial year. However, if it is an election year just like it was in 2014, teh government can not present a full-fledged Union budget, because they can't be sure that they'll form the next government or not. This Kind of Budget is known as Interim Budget. The Interim Budget is a temporary budget as its name suggests, passed by the departing government. The interim Budget includes reports of all the expenses incurred and incomes by the government in the previous financial year. The interim budget also includes the likely expenses to be incurred in coming few months till the new government takes over. There are no proposals of incomes in this interim budget but information on collection of taxes.

                          Profit, Loss and Discount shortcut techniques - Lesson 1 & 2

                          Profit, Loss and Discount shortcut techniques - Lesson 1

                          If you buy a mobile for Rs 1000, then it is called Cost Price. If you sell that to me for Rs 2500 (don't worry, I am dumb enough to buy that) then it is called the Selling Price. Here you made a "PROFIT" or "GAIN" of Rs 1500. If i sell the same mobile for Rs. 1800 to anybody else, then I will make a "LOSS" of Rs. 700.

                          Simply we can say that, if the Selling Price is is more than the Cost Price we can Make Profit. or If the Cost Price is more than the Selling Price then we will end up with Loss.

                          Profit = Selling Price (S.P) - Cost Price (C.P)

                          Percentage of Profit / Loss is calculated on the cost price by the following formula

                          Profit Percent = (Profit / Cost Price) X 100

                          Similarly,

                          Loss = Cost Price (C.P) - Selling Price (S.P)

                          Loss Per Cent = (Loss / Cost Price) X 100

                          Some Important Points to Remember :

                          1. Profit Or Loss Per Cent is always calculated on C.P and not in S.P
                          2. Overhead  expenses like Packaging, Transportation etc. are always added to the cost price to get the total C.P. and then profit per cent or loss per cent is calculated on this total cost price.
                          3. When the C.P and the S.P are given for different number of articles, first of all find C.P and S.P of equal number of articles and then only calculate profit per cent or loss per cent.

                          Marked Price and Discount :
                          When we go to a shop, we find price tags attached to the goods. The original price written on the price tag is called the "Marked Price". Sometimes, a reduction or concession is given on some Goods. We call this reduction as "Discount" . In Business, Discount is to attract the customers. More the sale, More the Profit :) Discount is given directly in terms of Money or in terms of other attractive articles. Direct discount is given on the labelled price. Which is much more than the actual cost price the seller has to pay. It is calculated in percentage. Seller gets profit even after giving discount to you.

                          Profit, Loss and Discount - Lesson II

                          Knowing the labelled price and the discount percentage and the percentage profit of the seller, we can get the actual cost price.

                          The selling price fixed by the seller includes all other necessary expenses like taxes, carting expenses etc. By giving some discount, the seller gets more customers.

                          Note  : Commission or brokerage is Added when we purchase, Subtracted when we Sell.

                          Note : In case of Successive discounts, the first discount is calculated on Marked Price, and is subtracted from it. The second discount is is then calculated on the resulting amount and again subtracted. The amount left after subtracting the last discount is the selling price of the Article.

                          The discount is always calculated on the Marked Price. have a look at the following Example.

                          A Shopkeeper marks the price of an article as Rs. 600. Find the selling price if he allows 10% discount ?
                          Sol :

                          Here, Marked price of the article = Rs 600
                          Shopkeeper is allowing a 10% discount.
                          So, if Rs 100 is Marked Price of the article, then Rs. 10 discount is offered on it.

                          So, Selling Price (S.P) of the article is Rs . 90.

                          so here, for Rs. 100 marked price the Discount = 10
                                       for Rs. 600 marked price, the Discount = ?
                          You can directly say the answer... Or,
                          (600/100) X 10 = 60

                          So, S.P = M.P - Discount
                                       =>   600 - 60

                                             => Selling Price = Rs 540

                          Number Series short cut techniques

                          Number Series short cut techniques

                          A number series can be considered as a collection of numbers in which all the terms are formed according to some particular rule or all the terms follow a particular pattern. The relation of any term to its preceding term will be same through out the series.

                          You have to find out the rule in which the terms of the series are selected and depending on that rule you have to find out the missing number. There is no definite rule for the series. Generally the series can be of the following types.

                          Prime Series : IN which the terms are the prime numbers in Order

                                 Ex : 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, _ , 19

                          • Here the terms of the series are the prime numbers in order. The prime number after 13 is 17. So the answer to this question is 17.

                          Alternate Primes :

                                 Ex: 2, 5, 11, 17, 23, _, 41

                          • Here the series is framed by taking the alternative prime numbers. After 23, the prime numbers are 29 and 31. So the answer is 31.

                          Every Third number can be the sum of the preceding two numbers:

                                 Ex : 3, 5, 8, 13, 21

                          • Here starting from third number
                          •  3 + 5 = 8
                          •  5 + 8 = 13
                          •  8 + 13 = 21
                          • So, the answer is 13 + 21 = 34

                          Every Third number can be the product of the preceeding two numbers

                                 Ex : 1, 2, 2, 4, 8, 32.

                          • Here starting from the third number
                          • 1 X 2 = 2
                          • 2 X 2 = 4
                          • 2 X 4 = 8
                          • 4 X 8 = 32
                          • So, the answer is 8 X 32 = 256

                          The difference of any term from its succeding term is constant (either increasing series or decreasing series :

                                 Ex : 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, _, 25

                          • Here the difference of any term from its succeding term is 3.
                          • 7 - 4 = 3
                          • 10 - 7 = 3
                          • So, the answer is 19 + 3 = 22

                          The difference between two consecutive terms will be either increasing or decreasing by a constant number :

                                 Ex : 2, 10, 26, 50, 82, _

                          • Here, The difference between two consecutive terms are
                          • 10 - 2 = 8
                          • 26 - 10 = 16
                          • 50 - 26 = 24
                          • 82 - 50 = 32

                          Here, the difference is increased by 8 (or you can say the multiples of 8). So the next difference will be 40 (32 + 8). So, the answer is 82 + 40 = 122

                                 Ex : 63, 48, 35, 24, 15, _

                          • Here, the difference between the two terms are
                          • 63 - 48 = 15
                          • 48 - 35 = 13
                          • 35 - 24 = 11
                          • 24 - 15 = 9
                          • Here, the difference is decreased by 2. So, the next difference will be 7. So, the answer is 15 - 7 = 8.

                          The difference between two numbers can be multiplied by a constant number :
                                 Ex : 15, 16, 19, 28, 55, _

                          • Here, the differences between two numbers are
                          • 16 - 15 = 1
                          • 19 - 16 = 3
                          • 28 - 19 = 9
                          • 55 - 28 = 27

                          Here, the difference is multiplied by 3. So, the next difference will be 81. So, the answer is 55 + 81 = 136

                          The difference can be multiplied by numbers which will be increasing by a constant number :
                                Ex : 2, 3, 5, 11, 35, _
                          The difference between two numbers are
                          3 - 2 = 1
                          5 - 3 = 2
                          11 - 5 = 6
                          35 - 11 = 24
                          Here, the differences are multiplied by numbers which are in increasing order.
                          Differences are
                          1
                          1 x 2 = 2
                          2 x 3 = 6
                          6 x 4 = 24
                          So, the next difference will be 24 x 5 = 120. So, the answer is 35 + 120 = 155.

                          Every succeeding term is got by multiplying the previous term by a constant number or numbers which follow a special pattern.

                              Ex : 5, 15, 45, 135, _
                          Here, 5 x 3 = 15
                          15 x 3 = 45
                          45 x 3 = 135
                          So, the answer is 135 x 3 = 405.

                              Ex : 2, 10, 40, 120, 240, _
                          Here, 2 x 5 = 10
                          10 x 4 = 40
                          40 x 3 = 120
                          120 x 2 = 240
                          So, the answer is 240 x 1 = 240

                          In certain series the terms are formed by various rule (miscellaneous rules). By keen observation you have to find out the rule and the appropriate answer.

                          Ex : 4, 11, 31, 90, _
                          Terms are,
                          4 x 3 - 1 = 11
                          11 x 3 - 2 = 31
                          31 x 3 - 3 = 90
                          So, the answer will be 90 x 3 - 4 = 266

                          Ex : 3, 5, 14, 55, _
                          Terms are,
                          3 x 2 - 1 = 5
                          5 x 3 - 1 = 14
                          14 x 4 - 1 = 55
                          So, the answer will be 55 x 5 - 1 = 274

                          Ex : 3, 7, 23, 95, _
                          Terms are,
                          3 x 2 + 1 = 7
                          7 x 3 + 2 = 23
                          23 x 4 + 3 = 95
                          So, the answer will be 95 x 5 + 4 = 479

                          Ex : 6, 17, 38, 79, _
                          Terms are,
                          6 x 2 + 5 = 17
                          17 x 2 + 4 = 38
                          38 x 2 + 3 = 79
                          So, the answer is 79 x 2 + 2 = 160
                          As we already told, there is no rule or logic to solve these type of problems. Only practice can make your brain sharp to understand the logic in a quick glance. so do as many problems on number series as possible.

                          Partnership

                          Partnership

                          Assume that TWO or MORE people together are doing a Business. It is called partnership. All the people who invests money are called Partners. The money contributed by these people is called their Capital (C).

                          • Simple Partnership : If each person contributes only one capital for the same time period, then it is called a Simple Partnership. In a simple partnership the Profit / Loss is divided in the ratio of the Capitals.

                          • Compound Partnership : If the partners contribute different capitals for different capitals for different time periods or at least one partner contributes two or more capitals for different time periods then the partnership is called as the Compound Partnership. In Compound partnership the profit / loss will be divided in the ratio of Monthly Equivalent Investment (MEI).

                          MEI : MEI = Capital of a person X Respective investment period.

                          • Sleeping Partner : If a person just invests the money but doesn't take care of day to day activities of the business is called a Sleeping Partner.

                          • Active Partner : The person who actually takes care of the day to day activities of the business is called the Active Partner. The active partner will be paid a monthly salary or a part of gross profit at the end of the business term.

                          • Important Note from Guide4BankExams : In every question that is being asked in bank exams whether the partnership is Simple or Compound, always take the ratio of Capitals including advances and withdrawals and then replace the Capitals with the respective terms of the Ratio.

                          Now lets do some problems.

                          1. Ranbir and Imran started a business initially with Rs. 14,200 and Rs. 15,600 respectively. If the total profit is Rs. 74,500 then what is Ranbir's share in the profit?

                          Sol : Capital's ratio of Ranbir and Imran = 14200 : 15,600  = 71:78
                          Their profit's ratio = 71:78

                          So, Ranbir's Profit =  ((74,500) / (71+78)) X 71 = (74500 / 149) x 71 = 35,500

                          2. A and B enter into a partnership by making investments in the ratio 1:2. 5% of the total profit goes to charity. If B's share is Rs. 760, then total profit is?

                          Sol : Let the profit be 100% . Profit to be distributed by A and B,
                          So100% - 5% = 95% (Because 5% goes to Charity)

                          So, Capitals are in the ratio 1:2. They must distribute the profits in the ratio of 1:2.

                          So, B's share = ((95% / (1+2) ) X 2 = 190% / 3

                          => 190%/3  =  960

                          So 100%  ---->  ?

                          = (760 x 100%) / ( 190%/3) =  (760 x 300) / 190 = 1200

                          3. Amir, Sharukh and Salman started a business jointly investing Rs. 11 Lakh, Rs 16.5 Lakh and Rs 8.25 lakh respectively. The profit earned by them in the business at the end of 3 years was Rs. 19.5 Lakh. What will be the 50% of Salman's share in the profit?

                          Sol :  Capitals ratio of Amir, Sharukh and Salman = 11 : 16.5 : 8.25
                          = 44 : 66 : 33   (Just tripled the values and added to avoid DECIMALS)
                          = 4 : 6 : 3
                          Since all of them invest for the same time period ( 3 Years), their partnership is a Simple One.

                          So, profit's Ratio = Capital's Ratio = 4 : 6 : 3

                          Total profit = 19.5 Lakhs

                          So, Salman's Share = ( (19.5) / (4+6+3) ) X 3 = ( (19.5) / 13) ) X 3 = 4.5

                          So, 50% of  Salman's Share = 4.5 / 2 = 2.25 Lakhs

                          4. A, B, C and D enter into a partnership investing Rs. 3000, C invests twice as much as D. B invests twice as much as C and A invests twice as much as B. Find B's share of the annual profit of Rs 1250?

                          Sol :  Let D=1, C=2X1 = 2, B=2X2=4, A=2X4=8

                          =>  A:B:C:D = 8:4:2:1

                          So, B's Share in the profit of Rs. 2250 = ((2250) / (8+4+2+1)) X 4 = ((2250 / 15) X 4) = 600

                          5. A, B and C enter into a partnership with certain capital in which A's Contribution is Rs. 10,000. If out of total profit of Rs 1000. A gets Rs. 500. B gets Rs 300, then C's capitals is?

                          Sol: Profit's ratio of A:B:C

                          = 500 : 300 : 200 = 5 : 3 : 2

                          So, Capital's A : B : C = 5 : 3 : 2

                          So, C's Capital = (10000 / 5)  X 2 = 4000

                          6. A and B started a business by investing Rs 50,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively.  A receives 12 1/2 % of the profit for managing the business and the rest is divided in proportion to their capitals. Find the share of each in a profit of    Rs 8800?

                          Sol: Capital's ratio of A and B = 50000 : 60000 = 5:6
                          Money received by A for managing the business

                          = 12 1/2 % X 8800 = (1/8) X 8800 = 1100

                          Profit to be distributed = 8800 - 1100 = 7700

                          So, B's Share = (7700 / (5+6)) X 6 =  (7700 / 11) X 6 = 4200

                          Compound Interest

                          Compound Interest

                          The interest which is calculated NOT ONLY on the original principal, but also on the INTEREST earned in previous period is called Compound Interest.

                          Confused?

                                   Ok, assume that you gave me Rs. 1000 with 10% interest. First year, the interest will be

                                                              (10/100)X1000 = 100          [Same as the Simple Interest]

                                       But in the 2nd year, the interest will be,

                                               (10/100) X (1000+100)  = 110

                          The difference between Simple Interest and Compound Interest :

                          S.I and C.I are same for the first year on the same sum and at the same rate percent.
                          In S.I, interest is calculated on the original Principal only (for all the years). But from 2nd year, the C.I is calculated not only on the original principal, but also on the interest of the first year.

                          On the same sum and at the same rate of Interest, the C.I of the 2nd year is always more than the C.I of the 1st years and their difference is equal to the interest on the interest of the first year.

                              Amount = P

                                            C.I = Amt - Principal

                                          Where,
                                                           A = Amount
                                                           P = Principal
                                                           R = Rate of Interest
                                                           T = Time Period

                          Example : Assume that Shivani borrows 3,000 at Rate 10% by C.I.
                                              The C.I on any principal becomes effective only after the 1st year is complete. Which means, that at the end of the first year. So, at the first year, the C.I is equal to the S.I of the Principal

                                         so, S.I = PTR/100  =  (3000 X 1 X 10) / 100  =  300 at the end of the first year.

                          NOw, if the sum borrowed with C.I, the above S.I is added to the Principal (So, in the above case, the principal becomes 3000+300 = 3300 ) and then if you calculate S.I on this amount, with the same S.I formula, you can get C.I for the second year.

                           P = 3300            R = 10         T = 1 Year

                           C.I for the 2nd year  = PTR / 100 =  (3300 X 1 X 10) / 100

                                                     C.I  = 330

                          The total C.I =     300 (at the end of the 1st year) + 330 (at the end of the 2nd year)

                                                               =  630

                          The same C.I can also be calculated by the above mentioned C.I formula.

                              C.I = Amt - Principal  =

                          2. To kidnap you and ask your dad for money : Ummmm, not a good idea!!! Nexxxxxxxt
                          3. To borrow the money from my friend. Sounds good, isn't it?

                          • But Nobody gonna give me money if Isay that I'm not going to return it to him. So, I should promise him that I will return the amount within a specif amount of time (not really :P). And in-order to TEMPT him, I also will promise him that I will return his money with some ADDITIONAL money. This additional money is called INTEREST.
                          • There are TWO types of Interests are there

                          1. Simple Interest : The amount charged by the lender for giving you his money for a specific amount of time.
                          2. Compound Interest : Here also same. But here the lender calculates the Interest on Interest if the given time exceeds (dont worry if you are unable to understand what I am saying. We shall discuss about this in our next post. Now concentrate on Simple Interest)

                          When money is borrowed at Simple Interest, the interest charged is same irrespective of the period involved.
                                 I mean, if Simple Interest for One year is Rs 1000/-, then for 2 Years with teh same rate percent, it will be 2X1000 = 2000/-

                          So, for 8 years it will be 8 X1000 = 8000.

                          So, if the Simple Interest (or SI in shorter form) on a certain sum is Rs 600 in 3 yrs, then the SI on that sum for one year will be 600/3 = 200

                          Now have a look at some formulas :

                          SI = (P*T*R)/100

                             Where
                          SI=Simple Interest
                          P= Principle (the actual money borrowed)
                          T=Time  in Years
                          R=Rate of % per annum (The percentage of the Principle, we should pay as the Interest)
                          So, Obviously

                          P = (100I) /TR
                          T = (100I) /PR
                          R = (100I) / PT
                          Now, how much money we should pay to the Lender?
                          Its the total of the money we have taken from him and the money we should pay in the name of Interest.

                          So, Amount A = P+I       The actual amount (Principle) + Interest

                          Now lets see some Examples

                          Simple Interest - Practice Problems

                          Here are some Simple Interest Practice Problems. Before Doing Problems, Have a look at the Basics HERE

                          1.  Find the Simple Interest on Rs 750 in 4 years at 15% per annum

                             here S.I =  PTR/100
                                           =  (750 X 4 X 15) / 100 =  450

                          2. On what sum of money will the Simple Interest be Rs. 2000 in 5 years at 8% Per Annum?

                                here they are asking about P,

                                   So, P = 100I / TR
                                            =  (100X2000) / 40  = 5000

                          3. A man invested Rs. 20,000 at 10% P.A. Rs. 15,000 at 12% P.A. and some money at 15% P.A. If the total annual interest recieved is Rs. 56,00, find the money invested by him at 15% P.A
                               here, the total Interest he recieved is Rs. 56,00.
                              So,  find the total interest and try to equate it with 56,00

                              So, the total interest = Σ [ (PTR)/100 ]    [ here Sigma symbol ( Σ ) represents the Total]

                                           = 200X10+150X12+ (P/100)X15 = 5600

                                              3800+ (3P/20) = 5600

                                         = 3P/20  =  1800 => P = 12000/-

                          4. On a sum of money the rate of interest is 5% Per Annum for the first 3 years, 6% Per Annum for the next 4 years, and 8% Per Annum for the next years beyond the first 7 Years. If the interest obtained in 12 Years is Rs. 3,950, Find the Sum?

                             5% X 3 + 6% X 4 + 8% X 5
                                      =  15% + 24% + 40% = 79%
                                          =>  (79/100) P  = 3950

                                          => P  =  (39500/79)  =  5000

                          5. A sum was put at 5% at a certain rate for 5 Years. Had it been put at 3% Per Annum higher rate, it would have fetched Rs. 900 more. Find the Sum?

                            P =   100I / TR      [Note : Here I is Additional Interest and R is additional Rate]

                                    = (100 X 900) / (5X3)
                                       = 6000

                          6. On a certain Sum of Money the Simple Interest in 2 years at 10% P.A is Rs. 125, what would be the S.I if the rate of Interest will be 12% P.A in 3 Years?

                          Here the Principle is same for both the cases. I mean  p = P

                              =>    100i / tr  =  100I / TR

                                      =  125 / (2 x 10)  =  I / (3 x 12)

                                    = >  I = 225

                          7. The S.I on Rs 6400 at 12 1/2 % per annum is Rs. 2000. Find the Period ?

                             T = 100I / PR   =  (100 X 2000 X 2) / (6400 X 25)  =  2 1/2 years

                          8. The S.I on Rs. 6000 in 3 Years and 4 Months is Rs. 3000. Find the rate percent Per Annum ?

                              [ here T = 3 4/12 = 3 1/3  = 10/3 years]

                                    I = PTR / 100 =>  R = 100I / PT

                                     =>  (100 X 3000 X 3) / (6000 X 10 ) = 15

                          9. Manish took a loan of Rs. 4000 at S.I. After 2 Years he cleared the loan by paying Rs. 5600. Find the Rate % P.A?

                                 [ Here Manish took Rs. 4000 and Payed 5600. So the Interest will be 5600-4000 = 1600 ]

                                So, R = 100I / PT

                                              =  (100 X 1600) / (400 X 2)

                                                =  20

                          10. A lent Rs. 25000 to B for 4 years and Rs. 40,000 to C for 3 1/2 years and got Rs. 24,000 S.I from both B and C. Find the rate PCPA

                               Σ [ (PTR)/100 ]   =  250 X 4R = 400 X (7/2) R =  2400R

                                                                 => R = 10

                          Time and Work

                          Time and Work

                          In this post, we shall discuss about the Time and Work. Lets start with some basic formulas.

                          Work = Strength X Time
                           =>   Strength X Time = Work
                          =>   (Strength X Time ) / Work = 1   :)

                          So, For every Case
                          (Strenth X Time) / Work = 1      [ No matter the values]

                          So, (SxT)/W will be same for all the cases.

                           I mean   st/w  =  ST/W

                          Keep this point in your mind.

                          Now lets see some more important formulas

                          If Days are Given :

                          • If A can do some work in n days, then he can do 1/n work in One day

                          If Work is Given :

                          • If A can do 1/n work in One day, he can finish it in n days

                          If A is TWICE as good a work man as B, then

                          • The ratio of work done by A and B = 2:1
                          • The ratio of time taken by A and B to finish the work = 1:2 (Please Dont be confused)

                          Now lets do some problems on Time and Work

                          Time and Work - Problems

                          1.  36 men can do a piece of work in 25 days. In how many days can 30 men do it?

                              Here , the work is same.. So,

                                              (S X T) / W = (s X t) / w

                                            = >       (S X T) / W = (s X t) / w    [ Cancel W for both sides]

                                         Now, substitute the values...
                                             = >  36 X 25  = 30 X t

                                               = >  (36 X 25) / 30  =  t  => t = 900/3  =  30

                          2.  32 men can do a piece of work in 15 days working for 6 hours a day. In how many days will 40 men can finish it if they work for 8 hours a day?

                                            32 X 15 X 6  = 40 X d X 8 = 9

                          3. If 16 men can build a wall of 52 m long in 25 days working for 8 hours a day, in how many days can 64 men build a similar wall of 260m long working for 10hrs a day?
                               As we know that (Strength X Time) / Work = 1 (Read details Here)

                          We can write =>

                                    (16 * 200) / 52  =  (64 * X * 10) / 260

                                                          =>  X = 25

                          4. A man engaged 10 laborers to make 320 toys in 5 days. After 3 days he found that only 120 toys were made. How many additional men should he engage to finish the work in time?

                                      here, equate the complete work with the remaining work

                                                 (10 X 3) / 120 = (10+X) x 2 / 200

                                                    = >   10+X = 25   =>   X = 15

                          5.  A can do a task in 20 days and B can do it in 30 days. In how many days can they finish it if they work together?

                                  A's one day's work = 1/20

                                   B's one day's work = 1/30

                                   => Their one day's work = (1/20)+(1/30)  =  (3+2)/60  =  5/60  =  1/12

                                         This is their one day's work TOGETHER.
                                                         So, obviously the number of days will be = 12

                               Short Cut : calculate Product/Sum   =  (20 X 30) / 50 = 12 Thats it

                          6.  A, B and C can do a job in 20 days, 30 days and 60 days respectively. If they work together, in how many days will the work be finished?

                                    (1/20)+(1/30)+(1/60) = (3+2+1)/60  =  6/60  = 1/10

                                         So, the number of days is = 10

                          7.  Two taps A and B can fill a tank in 10 hours and 15 hours respectively. a third tap C can empty the full tank in 12 hours. How many hours will be required if all of them are opened simultaneously to fill in an empty tank completely?

                                  Here, first two are Inlets and the last one is Outlet,

                                    So,      (1/10)+(1/15)-(1/12) =  (6+4-5)/60  =  5/60  = 1/12

                                         So, our answer is 12

                          8. A and B can do a job in 12 days. B and C in 15 days and C and A in 20 days. In how many days can they finish it if they work TOGETHER?

                                 A+B = 12
                                  B+C = 15
                                 C+A = 20

                          So here, A+B's One day's work = >   1/ (A+B) = 1/12

                                          B+C's one day's work  =>  1/ (B+C) =  1/15

                                           C+A's one day's work = > 1/(C+A) = 1/20

                                        Just Add them  =>  1/( 2A+2B+2C)  =  12/60  =  1/5

                                                            =>  1/2(A+B+C)  =  1/5

                                                               =>1/(A+B+C)  =  1/10   [this is their one day's work TOGETHER]

                                                So, they can finish it in 10 days :)

                          9.  A and B can do a job in 12 days. B and C can do the same job in 15 days. C and A in 20 days. In how many days can A alone finish the whole task???

                                   A+B = 1/12
                                   B+C = 1/15
                                   C+A = 1/20

                                   Here we need A, so take a pair which is NOT HAVING A  and subtract it from the others,

                                         so,  A+B-(B+C)+C+A  =  A+B-B-C+C+A =  2A

                          But according to our Problem, 2A =  (1/12)-(1/15)+(1/20)
                                                              =>A = 1/30 (this is A's one day work but we need A's total work)

                                                                     => A = 30 Days

                            10. A and B can do a piece of work in 20 days. A alone can do it in 30 days. In how many days can B alone do it?

                              Per day work of A and B = 1/20

                                   Work done by A=  1/30

                                 So, B's one day work =  1/20  - 1/30  =  (3-2)/60  =  1/60
