National Affairs

  • BJP, Congress and AAP have expressed their inability to form government in Delhi. So Delhi is heading for fresh elections.
  • The Uttarakhand Government has decided to strictly implement “no work no pay” regulation to discourage Government employees from resorting to frequent strikes in support of their demands.
  • People in News
  • The Congress today expelled senior leader and former union minister GK Vasan, after he quit the party and announced the formation of a new political outfit.


International Affairs

  • Mauritius, often accused of being a route for round-tripping of funds by Indians, today conveyed to Indian government that it was ready to support its Special Investigation Team (SIT) to unearth black money.


Awards & Honors



  • Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been chosen for one of Japan's top national awards  'The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers'.
  • He was honored with this award for  his significant contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years.
  • He is the first Indian to receive this rare honour.
  • Brittany Maynard, 29, who campaigned for “Death with dignity”, was suffering from an aggressive malignant brain tumour, died today in Oregon from taking lethal drugs prescribed by a doctor.
  • She moved to Oregon to take advantage of the state’s assisted-suicide law 


MOUs


  • Reeling under severe electricity shortage, the new born state Telangana today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chhattisgarh for purchasing 1,000 Megawatt of power.
  • Officials of the two states signed the MoU in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh in Raipur.

  • NASA has released over 60 space audio recordings including sounds of shuttle launching, Saturn's rings, Neptune, Jupiter, Uranus and famous quotes from astronauts for anyone to hear online.

  • Search giant Google today announced the creation of an Indian Language Internet alliance (ILIA), in partnership with various content providers, to make available local language content on the Internet with an aim to bring 300 million Indians online by 2017.
  • At a function in New Delhi today, Information and Broadcasting Minister PrakashJavadekar launched the alliance.

  • Veteran Bollywood actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar who is known for his stellar performances in villainous roles in movies like Sadak, Ishq and Ardh Satya, died today.

  • Justice Mudgal Committee, the committee which is investigating spot-fixing allegations in the Indian Premier League cricket tournament submitted its final report to the Supreme Court.
  • Court consider the report next monday.
  • World Champion Magnus Carlsen will be facing five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand in the World Chess Championship to be held in Sochi from 7th November to 28th November 2014.
  • After the success of Mary Kom, a biopic is going to be made on former India hockey captain Sandeep Singh.
  • Ranbir Kapoor to portray his role in the movie.
  • Chitrangada Singh is set to turn producer with this movie.
